At the end of the ceremony, there is a crêpe paper ribbon held across the front rows of the aisle for the couple to walk/break through.
This symbolizes the "cutting of the primary cord" from the child & parent relationship to the adult couple & parent relationship.
It also symbolizes the beginning of making a home together.
