Spring Wedding Theme – Theme Ideas for a Spring Wedding

By Georgina Clatworthy

A spring time wedding is a wonderfully romantic time of year to get married as nature wakes from its winter slumber. Planning a wedding with a spring wedding theme means taking your inspiration from nature itself to create a pretty and understated wedding that is sure to wow your guests.

When it comes to choosing colors you can choose to keep them soft and subtle or loud and vibrant. For something soft and understated choose subtle color combinations such as palest pink or blue, soft greens and champagne’s. If you want something more vibrant then take inspiration from the first flowers of the season such as the bright purple’s, yellows and reds of daffodils, crocus and tulips. Don’t try to mix the two though as the resulting clash of colors will look messy and overpowering.

Floral patterns can feature but keep them in line with your color choices, for instance blossoms and roses for a subtle color scheme; tulips and daffodils for a bright scheme. And of course your floral arrangements should match too! You can also use other patterns such as subtle damasks, gingham checks and spring motifs.

Motifs for a spring themed wedding should also take their influence from nature. Think about birds, bees and butterflies. You may want to avoid traditional Easter emblems of chicks and bunny rabbits, but birds egg decorations can add a nice touch of spring to the theme. Think about giving wedding favors consisting of miniature bird’s nests filled with chocolate eggs or how about spring bulbs or flower seeds to match those flowers in your displays.

Keep the same motifs running throughout every element of your wedding, so if you choose a pattern of cherry blossom, birds and butterflies use it for your wedding invitations, stationery and favors. Use the same color scheme throughout too including stationery, table linens and your bridesmaid’s dresses. Talk with your wedding cake designer about using the same motifs on your wedding cake too.

Your venue will help to dictate how you plan your spring wedding theme. You may want to choose a venue with pretty gardens, but with an indoor room or marquee for when the cooler evening draws in. Gardens filled with cherry blossom trees in full bloom create a romantic backdrop, whilst woodlands awash with bluebells have a more natural feel. If you opt for an all-indoors affair them make your own floral decorations such as wreaths and garlands to hang on walls and doors. You can make them from fresh, dried or faux flowers and a simple decoration idea is to make garlands of petals simply threaded onto fishing line.

For your centerpieces you can choose seasonal flowers such as branches of cherry blossom in tall vases or arrangements of tulips and daffodils in terracotta pots. If you choose a seasonal wedding theme then you need to keep every element of it just that – seasonal, including the menu so make sure you give equal attention to that too and let your caterer know you want a spring themed menu.
